Advanced Technology At Dothan Cosmetic Dentistry
When you think of the tools of dentistry, what comes to mind? Likely, it’s a small mirror, a dental pick, and maybe even a drill. While all of these instruments are still extremely useful, the truth of the matter is that dental technology has advanced greatly over the past two decades alone, allowing Dr. Gaunt and our team to find dental problems even faster so we can treat them quickly. Some of the state-of-the-art tools we use every day include:
Intraoral Cameras
Before the intraoral camera, much of dentistry involve your doctor simply telling you what was going on with your smile. Thanks to this handy little device, we can now show you. This little pen-sized camera fits easily into the mouth and can capture high-resolution images of the teeth and gums we can display on a large chairside monitor. With it, we’ll be able to spot small problems sooner, and you’ll be able to understand your dental health SO much better –trust us!
Digital X-Rays
Traditional dental X-rays required a lot of time to develop and exposed people to uncomfortable amounts of radiation, but thanks to the advent of digital dentistry, these problems have both been solved. Digital X-rays can create crystal-clear images almost instantly, and they emit up to 80% less radiation as well. Plus, the images can be easily blown up, rotated, and color-coded so you can easily go over them with your dentist.
Soft Tissue Laser
Our soft tissue laser enables us to perform even the most sensitive periodontal (gum) procedures quickly and easily while keeping our patients completely comfortable. We can use it to eliminate harmful bacteria, remove infected tissue, and even complete gum lifts without the need of a scalpel and sutures. With the laser, treatments take less time, are more comfortable, and they even ensure that patient will heal faster.
Hard Tissue Laser
Just as our soft tissue laser enables us to painlessly treat the gums, our hard tissue laser allows us to do the same with procedures that concern the teeth and surrounding bone. With it, we can precisely remove any damaged or decayed hard tissue without using a dental drill, which delivers a much more comfortable patient experience as well as a longer lasting result because it leaves more healthy tissue intact. Typically, we don’t even need to use local anesthetic with a laser procedure!
Cavity Detection System
Finding cavities is one of the most basic AND important things we do every day, but with our cavity detection system, this task is now easier than ever. It uses a beam of light that can find even the slightest indications of decay, even ones that would be too small to detect through a normal exam. With this information, we can quickly intervene with conservative treatments and stop many cavities from ever forming in the first place.
The Wand
Our patients certainly appreciate it when we use local anesthesia to protect them from discomfort, but do you know what most don’t like? The shot needed to administer it! Now, with The Wand, we can ensure that a patient feels nothing right before they feel nothing! A pen-shaped device first places a small amount of topical anesthetic on a treatment area to numb it, and then the rest is administered very slowly and evenly, completely eliminating that little “pinch” many patients are familiar with.
