Restorative Dentistry

We can bring your smile back to life.

Occasionally, it is determined from a complete exam that you have some restorative dentistry needs. Whether you need small fillings or large restorations like onlays, crowns, or bridges, we keep to our philosophy to restore the teeth to their most natural form and function, as conservatively as possible.

In keeping with this philosophy, Dr. Gaunt has not placed amalgam (silver) dental restorations since 1995. While it is an arguable issue that the mercury-containing silver fillings are detrimental to your health, Dr. Gaunt prefers the superior qualities of composites (white bonded dental restorations) and bonded inlays and onlays to the historic silver fillings. These qualities are highlighted by minimally invasive tooth preparations, strengthening the teeth via the tooth-to-restoration bond, durability comparable to natural enamel, and the resulting natural form and color of the final restorations. For restorative dentistry that is as beautiful as it is strong, you can trust Dr. Gaunt at Dothan Cosmetic Dentistry.

There are several types of restorative dentistry procedures which can repair or replace damaged teeth.  Crowns and bridges are two of the most common procedures.  A crown covers a broken or decayed tooth, protecting it from further damage and giving your smile a more beautiful appearance.  Bridges replace a gap in the tooth line which is caused by missing teeth, and are anchored to existing teeth for stability.

Some restorative dentistry needs can be filled with less invasive methods.  Sometimes chipped or damaged teeth can be repaired simply with dental bonding.  Bonding requires much less preparatory work than crowns or other techniques, and often gives very beautiful results.  Bonding agents can be tinted to match the exact shade of your existing tooth enamel.

Restorative dentistry, when done conservatively and aesthetically, can result in a very rewarding result: teeth that appear natural and function efficiently and comfortably.
